Foundations of Educational Technology

Word Cloud Before & After

At the beginning of the course, we were tasked with creating a word cloud out of our thoughts on what educational technology is and what it encompasses. I also created one at the end of the class to show how my ideas had evolved. Although they are similar in words (“students” and “learning” rose to the top within both), I added some new reflections. In my original WordCloud, I used the shape of the Twitter bird to reflect an educational technology tool. I changed the shape of my WordCloud at the end of the course to be a person. I recognize that educational technology tools are neat, but will always be changing. People will forever be the central purpose for why we do what we do and why we choose to use ed tech in the first place.  As an instructional designer, my biggest take away from this class has been the “why” and “how” we do things the way we do. Use of educational technology should always follow from a definite objective and purpose, and use quality design principles.

Statement of Professional Goals

This activity required us to reflect upon our current status and where we wanted to go in our profession. I wrote about how I’ve gotten to this point in my professional and academic career, as well as what I hoped to be able to do as a result of working through my master’s degree in educational technology. As I was writing my goal statement for my website just recently, I was pleased to see that I accomplished all of the goals I set out to accomplish throughout my master’s degree!
